A joke, an excerpt from play-in-development: JüRGEN OK, then.. Listen carefully: (giggles in anticipation) It’s the very end of the Third Reich. Hitler himself is hiding in his bunker. (laughs uncontrollable) Sorry.. little lady.. It’s just.. so.. (controls himself) OK, then... where..?.. Yes, Hitler... oh.. And Eva Braun also, of course, hiding like Romeo and Juliet. ready to die as star-struck lovers. In the bunker... ready to shoot themselves, rather than face defeat.. Then, just before they do it, an SS-Captain storms in: “Mein Führer! Mein Führer! We have done it – the atomic bomb is ready to destroy all of our enemies – we can still win the war – “ Hitler and Eva breaks off what was supposed to be their last final kiss, and Hitler says “The atomic bomb? What is that? I have never heard of such a thing? Is it the new V2-bomb? You ruin our last kiss with some stupid flying bomb. No, no, it’s too late.” He turns to kiss Eva goodbye, but the SS-Captain is adamant; “Mein Führer, it is the ATOMIC BOMB – you gave an order for us to build a bomb, which could destroy a whole city?” Hitler suddenly becomes very serious; “Wait, wait a minute young man.. You have actually succeeded in creating that bomb?” The ambitious SS-Captain nods eagerly; “Yes, and we are ready to fire it on your order! And not just one – we have four ready – one for London – we call it “Fat Lady”, and one for Moscow, we call “Cry Baby”, one for New York called “Cheap Lady” and one for.. I think maybe Paris – and..” But Hitler interrupts; “So these four bombs can kill millions upon millions of people – just like that?” The SS-Captain jumps in excitement “Yes, yes – mein führer!!” Hitler raises his gun, shoots Eva, then shoots himself. The young captain runs to Hitler and holds him, as he dies; “Mein Führer, mein Führer, why did you kill yourself?” Hitler rattles his last words: “A world with the atomic bomb... better die now..”
