A kiss is not a promise. Have you ever noticed how dogs get excited when you throw them a ball or a frisbee? They have a positive conditioned emotional response to that type of interaction. There are people who are manipulators. They know how to throw emotional frisbees to get a conditioned emotional response from you. What am I talking about it? Well, when you have realized your relationship, job, church or any relationship is using and abusing you ...they may throw you an emotional frisbee to get you excited and pull you back into a toxic/dead-end situation. Its call manipulation. For example... I have a new position for you.... Im sorry I wont do it again.... I cant help it, my childhood was so hard. I need you....Lets get away for a vacation. ...Lets go shopping for a ring. .... You look so beautiful. A manipulator will test your loyalty, desperation, self-esteem, need for security, approval, love and/or power. Manipulators fight dirty. Theyll tell you what they think you want to hear and then do something devious behind your back. They can make you doubt your own power, beauty, worth and faith. An emotional manipulator is a great victim and uses words and emotional frisbees to make you feel guilty and/or afraid. A manipulator will use any trick in the book to get you caught up or to make you feel like you belong...e.g. a kiss, a promise, gifts, a compliment, a guilt trip, in your face hollering, threats, silent treatment, empty gestures to make you think you have a title or position. I cant make this stuff up. I have experienced this in various ways in my family, jobs, church leaders, co-workers, and friends. I hear far too many stories of being in a relationship with a manipulator or feeling trapped by manipulation from a friend, lover, mate, parent, leader, boss, siblings,or organization. Begin to recognize when a manipulator is throwing you an emotional frisbee. Dont react so quickly. Dont catch it. When they see you no longer reacting and catching those frisbees, they will eventually stop and realize you are reclaiming your power.
