A lady walked up to me in the Starbucks parking lot this morning and noticed I was wearing was my Red Sox cap. She said, I hated the World Series because I had to root for the National League. I am a Yankees fan and just cant stand Boston. The Yankees just had too many injuries this year or they would have won it. I just hate the Red Sox. And she said it all in one breath, with a cigarette in her hand. I had to admit, I was impressed. Most Yankees fans I know cant walk and chew gum at the same time. She took a drag, then continued. You guys were lucky Derek Jeter wasnt healthy and even luckier that Mariano is retiring. Oh, and I am from New York, the Bronx to be exact. I was always taught to be kind to the less fortunate, but I couldnt resist. I looked her square and said, If the ignorant were blessed, youd be a saint. Then walked away, replaying the video of David Ortiz hoisting the World Series trophy, in my mind. And smiled.
