A letter from David Lonebear Sanipass December 16th, 2014 _______________________________ Dear community members, Beginning on November 22, 2014 and ending on November 24, 2014 we walked for the water of the earth in Aroostook County, Maine. We walked for the water because without water we cannot survive. We walked in gratitude in order to focus and connect with the water, with the earth and with our place in the universe. As we walked in silence, our breath became our prayer. We began at Haystack Mountain and ended in Caribou, Maine. We walked down logging roads, alongside rivers, through woods, over bridges and down main streets. It was cold at times. It was wet at times. Whether folks were cold or wet it was always a walking prayer in silence and unity. There were approximately 25 walkers. We walked 22 miles. What went really well was the participation and cooperation of everyone involved. I think the Spirit Walk was a very successful ceremony. There was much participation, respect and cooperation amongst all the people involved. I would like to recognize the walkers and all the people who participated and supported the walk in so many ways. You couldnt ask for any better help. People walked, cooked, cleaned, picked up weary walkers, delivered snacks and water and more. We are announcing that we will be walking for the next 25 years. Every walk will resume from where we left off the previous year. Because we concluded our walk at Spruce Haven in Caribou, the next walk will start there. There will be multi points of departure, with some walkers heading to Canada while others will be heading to other places at the same time. We look forward to walking together again in coherence and in spirit. Thank you very much. Respectfully, David Lonebear Sanipass
