A letter from one of my dearest friends who gave me 45 minutes - TopicsExpress

A letter from one of my dearest friends who gave me 45 minutes early on, and before this story really blew up, and let vent my rage about Russia... I admit, I was apathetic, shrugging my shoulders, and thinking… “What can we really do?” It was only moments later that I thought of what I might say to people in Germany, or the world over, 77 years ago, as I now live in a different world. The answer was so obvious…today. “Stand up, act out, don’t let this happen! You’ll regret it later!!” I think it only serves the point that we live in such a different time now, with the faculties of social media literally at our finger tips. Humanity has never been so informed and connected, and yet people still seem to feel powerless. In thinking of the atrocities against the LGBT community that are going on in Russia right now, we have to ask ourselves, “Am I going to take action, and make my voice heard? Am I going to realize my place in the world today? Or will I re-tweet another cute cat video? “ Others will go on about the rights we’re fighting for, but I’m writing today to own up to my own apathy, and encourage others to wake up, and speak up. Yes, I am in and of myself, only a single person, but no great strides in humanity have occurred without leadership of the few, and support of the many. Write to the IOC, to your MLA or MP, get involved! But most importantly, know that your voice matters. -Trevor Roberts
