A letter to Sir Paul Beresford from Leatherhead Poors Allotment - TopicsExpress

A letter to Sir Paul Beresford from Leatherhead Poors Allotment Society. Dear Sir Paul Your letter dated 5 March to one of your constituents has been brought to our attention. There are two points that we wish to address and advise you of the accurate position. You state I understand that Barratt Homes has agreed to provide an alternative allotment site and according to my information, the allotment group are agreeable to this change. Firstly, Barratt Homes are NOT providing an alternative allotment site. Barratt Homes are making a sum of money available to fund the provision of a new site by Mole Valley District Council (MVDC). MVDC are in negotiations with local landowners to find a suitable relocation site(s) for the allotments. It is completely untrue that either the allotment group or the allotment tenants are agreeable to this change. Until we know the exact location of proposed replacement site(s) and have had the opportunity to satisfy ourselves that they are at least as good in every respect as the existing site we are unable to agree to anything. Secondly, It is quite interesting in that I have also had indications that although there is opposition, there is also support for this with the local residents. As the Member of Parliament for the Mole Valley you must be aware of the overwhelming opposition of your constituents to MVDCs proposals for development on the Green Belt. With regard to the Barratt Homes proposals you only have to read the submissions on the MVDC Consultation to see how little support there is from local residents for this proposed development. Those in favour of the Barratt Homes proposal are, in the main, NIMBYs A further issue is your statement that you are not completely au fait with this particular site or MVDCs Planning Committees decision regarding the Barratt Homes application. It is obvious from the content of your letter that you are not au fait with this particular site. It would be helpful if you found out the exact details of the proposal and the views of local residents and allotment holders before commenting. We would appreciate a reply to this e-mailed letter. Should you prefer to send a reply by post please address your letter to: Leatherhead Poors Allotment Society (address removed) Regards, The Committee Leatherhead Poors Allotment Society
