A little about us. Soap became my life over the course of the summer in 2012. Classes at UNT had ended, and because of my major, the classes I needed to graduate wouldnt have started until January. My husband was struggling to find more than just temporary work, and we had a one year old to raise. I picked up soap making because it combined both my love for chemistry and my passion for natural medicine. I started out just doing it as a creative hobby, and to save a bit of money over purchasing the gentler soaps we needed to bathe our son. But then I realized that my unique soap formulations, which utilized ingredients in specific combinations for optimum skin nourishing qualities, had potential in the free market. We dont advertise the skin health advantages of our soap. Rather, our soaps initially sell because they smell nice and look pretty, but customers keep returning to us because they notice their skin is healthier with our soaps. Im truly in awe about how well our business has grown over the past year. Our online presence is growing steadily, the two shops that carry our soaps are steadily increasing their orders month after month, and our sales at the local community market definitely werent something to laugh at. In fact, Im rather surprised at our success at the market, since we needed to hire help to run our booth. You see, right after we decided to be a part of the community market, my husband landed a job an hour away, and no longer was available on Saturdays to watch our son while I went to the market to sell soap. By the time we figured in having to pay a babysitter (and the worry of leaving a nonverbal 2 year old in someone elses care), we realized we might as well just hire a salesperson for the market. I get to take care of my son, they get to earn money and gain sales experience. Win-win situation. Our success over the past year may look quite small to most people (I personally am not even taking pay yet), but weve kept a few part-time employees paid this year, and were steadily paying down the debt we acquired to start this business. What keeps me going since I still work for free? Well, to be honest, the excitement on peoples faces when they tell me our soaps are the best theyve ever used and theyll never go back to anything else. We have a small but growing pool of these loyal customers, and their kind words always keep me going. You know who you are, so thank you, for your support and encouragement!
