A little advertising for highschool, AP Music Theory (although its a bit late now...) I arrive at Boca Raton for my enrollment at FAU. Since Im a transfer student, I took a Music Theory placement test. I was enrolled in theory 3 ahead of time for scheduling purposes, and was told not to feel bad if I got placed in a low-level theory class because it would give me more training. There are 4 Music Theory classes, theory 1 - 4 respectively. After my placement test, I was authorized to enroll in Orchestration... I was confused, as you probably are, so I asked the director of bands, He said Ive met all the theory requirements of this school, so I can take the fifth and final course in the track, Orchestration. THIS MEANS that AP Music Theory will teach you most if not all of the music theory specific classes you will need in college (depending on your college and curriculum obviously.) Including 4 semesters of theory 1 - 4. If you plan to pursue music ESPECIALLY as a major / minor, or even a hobby, TAKE IT. That is all.
