A little and quick demo of the new Waves Audio LTD Reel ATD (Artificial Double Tracking) plugin. t.co/xk9hpuj83B The original hardware version was developed by Ken Townsend from Abbey Road studio to meet the needs of one of their famous customers: John Lennon of the The Beatles who hated to sing vocals twice to create double tracks. Basicly the ATD doubled the audio signal on a valve tape machine, creating the illusion of two independent takes of a track, caused by varying the speed of the of the tape. The Beatles used it a lot on their vocal tracks but also on guitars and other instruments. Besides the main effect, it brought extra warmth, drive and compression to the recordings. Examples: On Eleanor Rigby it is used on Pauls vocal tracks. On Im Only Sleeping John Lennon uses it on his vocal tracks. Both tracks are on the Revolver album. Its used on the White Album a lot as well. I use it on three audio tracks (all Moog Voyager) and the hi hats of the drumtrack. On that last one, the hi hats track, you can clearly hear the stereo effect of the original mono hi hat track . The plugin glues the various tracks in a nice way together as well. A winner!
