A little late posting but lots happened today. Thanks to all who contacted Travis. Can hardly wait to see what he says tomorrow. As far as the meeting went.....lots and lots of people and lots and lots of information. Mostly covered what they are doing and why, what they hope to accomplish. A lot was discussed regarding what happens when he is released from Barlow. Lets see if I can do a condensed version. First, for the shape his lungs are in he is coming along pretty well. Off the vent totally for an hour today and each day they will add an hour. Pneumothorax seems to be correcting, now hope it stabilizes and doesnt regress. So much is getting back muscle and muscle strength including breathing muscles. That is such a biggie, getting him off the vent then the trach. At some point he will probably be transferred to sub acute care, when he no longer needs a hospital atmosphere. That is plan B, there is a plan C but we wont discuss it at this point, then there is the possibility he improves rapidly to the point if he gets rid of the trach and is very stable with his breathing he could come home and have home care for whatever time. Realistically that will happen after the sub acute phase. My brother does have his home set up tho where it could easily work. One thing was nothing was ever said that led us to believe he wouldnt make it. A long way to go and lots of work but came away feeling positive. I am going to try and not go up there Wednesday. The gal taking care of mom needs a day off so I will give the day to mom. Knowing me will probably take mom up to see him for a short time. Want him to feel safe and know he can depend on me. The whole experience had to have been horrific for him and I know he has had nightmares....well.....who wouldnt. Ok..hope that answered questions. If I missed something let me know.
