A little update from our Academy Rider Billy Sewart The Ups and downs of racing! I had a good start to the season, My second race of the year at Saighton was probably the best race Ive ever had, even though I only finished 14th I was in a break with some strong guys for 3/4 of the race, I was riding like ten men! That really boosted my confidence early on in the season . After a solid week in Majorca I was racing stronger than I ever had, I had a some good results in April and May including 2nd at a hilly TT beating my time from the previous year by nearly 4 mins, i also had a few top 10s at the Preston crit races, and a couple of top 15 results at road races. I also entered my first stage race in May, the Ilkley cc 2 day event which consisted of a lumpy road race and a team time trial on Saturday and a very hilly road race on the Sunday. Saturdays road race went well and I ended up off the front for about two laps but got caught just before the finish, we had a good ride in the TTT and finished 5th overall in that. Sundays road race was held on a brutally hilly circuit 5500ft of climbing in 45 miles, I literally hung on for 45 miles and managed to attack in the last 400 meters and bagged myself 8th, probably my best result of the year so far considering the circuit! I finished the weekend 13th in the General classification in what was a tough but very well organised event! June and July havent been great for me racing wise, I was on good form and finished 2nd in a local hill climb, we also had some great rides in both the Manchester wheelers 3 up and Warrington road club 4 up team time trials. Then it all went wrong, I was racing the surf and turf 2 day stage race and got caught up in a high speed crash in the sprint on day one, two riders crashed in front of me and I had nowhere to go so hit the deck pretty hard, I walked away with some gravel rash and bruising so I thought..... Long story short turns out I damaged an intercostal muscle in between my ribs in my back 6 weeks on and its just about right and Im getting my race fitness back. Ive got a few races lined up for august and September so Im hoping I can bag a few end of season results :) Just have to add Im loving my Scott Addict.....anybody looking for a high performance road machine with lots of comfort look no further - its a winner!
