A long planned trip to Montreal for 48 hours (including the total 14 hour round trip drive) to see Jake Bretton, and together go see Dweezil Zappa and Dweezil Zappa Plays Zappa. Add to that, a wonderful trip to the Fine Arts Museum and other favorite spots and it was just a great time - a proud dad. Here is what I said about our Tuesday evening elsewhere: I drove 6+ hours from NYC to see DZPZ with my son in Laval (outside of Montreal). A terrific theatre, with a great sound system (Glynn Wood, sound engineer extrodinaire, was very pleased) and the place was packed with poutine-eating, beer swilling, very happy Canadian Zappa Fans (and one from NYC). A spectacular show from start to finish and the addition of new drummer Ryan Brown was wonderfull - it is clear that everyone on stage is having the very best of times, and the audience felt it. Ryan and Kurt Morgan make a rock solid rhythm section and were always in the pocket. Dweezil hasnt sounded better. Ben Thomas is not only a great vocalist and performer, but his bone and trumpet playing (and various percussion and sound effects) was terrific. Chris Norton is wonderful and handling all keys and sampled mallet parts beautifully, but the night really belonged to Scheila Gonzalez MusicPage, who was simply sublime: singing, dancing, making us laugh and blowing us away with her gorgeous sax playing (and keyboards as well). What fun! Great Peter Jacob Jones moment with Wino Man -- everyone was on-- cant wait for New York shows next week!!!!
