A long-time ally has deleted me from her facebook account because I poo pooed the Trannyshack name change as hashtag activism run amok. This reminds me of the time I was deleted by a friend for calling Britney Spears a terrible dancer. Yes, I believe both controversies to be equally ridiculous. At Trannyshack I laughed for years when the queens made every AIDS joke available to their unmerciful cannon. We laughed through jokes about illegal immigration, homophobia, white privilege, and cracks about SFs rampant, misguided political correctness. There I witnessed people barf on stage, get fisted in the back room, and get made fun of for everything from being a ginger to...well, everything. The queens and their misogynist jokes didnt raise any protests from feminist groups. You want to know why we all went back week after week? It was because we all knew that we were allies, and when we lose our sense of irony and humor, we lose pieces of our culture. Forgive me, but this was a club that became famous in-part for people getting their butts eaten out live on-stage---when did we begin projecting our political correctness there of all places?
