A lot of discussion recently has centered around the unfortunate deaths at ballroom dance competitions in the USA (three in the last three years!). The most recent on the floor death occurred recently to a Senior dancer, and a discussion ensued about how an AED (which requires minimal skill or knowledge) was not readily available in the ballroom, and subsequently discussions about what medical assistance should be present in a dance event. It was mentioned that European events, and other USA sporting events, have some medical supervision on site. It was also mentioned that altho anti doping was recently publicized as a position in the USA Dance organization, there is nobody with a position of oversight of our safety and health… no accommodations for first aid, and AED, or even a requirement that minimal medical oversight be made. An accident for anyone at any age can quickly turn life threatening if not cared for properly and quickly - a 15 year old falls on his head, a 60 year old gets elbowed - What do YOU think?
