A lot of my friends, especially those who havent known me a while, - TopicsExpress

A lot of my friends, especially those who havent known me a while, no doubt think that Im extremely stubborn about my beliefs, that even in the face of strong evidence and solid reasoning, even if the arguments presented against my views are compelling, I wont likely change my views. But while it is true that I set the bar very high for what qualifies as compelling, its wrong to assume that I havent been influenced significantly. As proof of this, Im presenting below a list of the biggest alternations of belief that I have made as a result of debates and conversations with friends and acquaintances: Political Ideology: 1. was a progressive democrat 2. became a libertarian. 3. adopted classical liberal viewpoints 4. supported the constitution as a foundation for rights 5. supported states rights. 6. reformed thought to realize the constitution took power away from the states. 7. switched stance to emphasis on individual rights. 8. became a minarchist 9. read about Ayn Rand. After becoming somehow interested in her philosophies, became convinced that nothing about Ayn Rand contributed to my beliefs that was not already accessible in far more rational (and less biased) than her ideology. 10. started supporting property rights. 11. took a stance against gay rights and minority rights 12. was introduced to Communist philosophy. rejected it as impractical and in violation of individual rights, as well as interfering with positive liberties (the right to opportunities in excess of those afforded by others. 13. learned about anarchism, decided to become an anarchist 14. became interested in anarcha-feminism, became an anarcha-feminist because later discarding it as too idealistic. 15. introduced to voluntaryism, incorporated it into my political philosophy 16. convinced to support the social contract, modified my understanding of it to be compatible with voluntaryism 17. took a limited state view that emphasized the importance of people voluntarily accepting the terms of a state by means of a voluntary social contract. 18. Introduced to social anarchism 19. Became enamored with egalitarian, stateless societies. 20. Just realized this is going to be very long. Ill leave this up here for now, but I, probably going to make a long blog post of this when I have more time :P
