A lot of people have been asking me how I feel about the new bikie laws. So here it is. Regardless of whether you like, hate or tolerate bikies, we need to object to these laws. Much like a lot of the governments policies (ahem boat people) they have used fear, intolerance and discriminatory behaviour as a basis to suspend the rule of law. A fundamental tenet of our society is that the law applies EQUALLY to EVERYONE. Even more problematically, if you look at the actual legislation, it is not all solely limited to bikies. It actually includes corporations and any group of three or more people by whatever name, legal or illegal in which lawless behaviour may occur. Think about just how broad that is. That could potentially be you and your friends. That could be your business. They have used fear of bikies as a blanket under which to implement dangerous laws that have the potential to affect everyone, without any kind of due consultation, apparently because of the emergency situation. Sorry, but this is absolute bullshit. Where is this evidence of prolific lawlessness that justifies this WAR in which they can suspend the rule of law. Im sorry but if you look at the stats on bikie arrests it hardly warrants a greater degree of interest than say racial gangs. But if they were to premise their war on race, there would be a massive backlash. Instead they sneak it in under fear against people who cant really defend themselves to the public eye. We cant let them get away with implementing something like this unchecked and unrestricted. I could be wrong, there could be a justifiable war situation. But that is just the kind of question thats supposed to be thoroughly investigated by independent analysts BEFORE you implement laws that impinge of peoples freedom and right to live without oppression. Where will it end if we start letting things like this slide? Thats the real question. If you think it ends with bikies youre kidding yourselves.
