A lot of personal turmoil is a result of distorted thinking. Trying to live out a lie that we (people) were not created for. The world teaches that we should be driven by pleasure. That what matters most is being happy or not experiencing pain. We are told to believe that if we are successful in worldly things that our lives will be at its best. If we make lots of money, people like us, we have our $&%^@# together, and we have a family that makes us look good, we will somehow have achieved the ultimate that life has to offer. So, where is the evidence? Who is the person who is the living example of this world view? Its not truth! You were made for something better. You were made for something much greater than all of that nonsense. As babies we seek pleasure and comfort. As we mature we begin desiring mature things like purpose and fulfillment. Acknowledging that its not all about us and our desires but rather living out the reality of our creator and his design for our lives is a step toward being a grownup. This kind of mature thinking is what it takes to be a real parent rather than being affectionate but self centered. Being a real friend comes from accepting that suffering is mandatory but purposeful. Chasing the American Dream is an exhausting race with no finish line designed to keep you from real fulfillment. You can run after money, things, people, acceptance, and pride until the day you die but only God can give you real fulfillment. You were designed by God for God and your purpose and fulfillment comes from him and through him. All the money and love and acceptance will happen once you submit completely to our loving Creator but once it comes, it will be a lot less important. If you really have your life under control, by all means, keep it up. But, if your feeling honest about where your at in your life and realize that you just dont have it all under control, consider letting God take over and create something beautiful and lasting out of the life he gave you. He made it for something awesome and he loves you!
