A lot of planning, effort and hard earned cash usually goes into catching that fish of a lifetime. And since most of us catch and release these days youre usually left only with the photographs and the memories. And since my camera skills could do with some help I asked John to provide some tips. We thought they might be useful to one or two others too, so well be posting them over the next few weeks. Before we start, remember: • Keep it simple and don’t get bogged down in technical stuff. • If you’re going to release the fish, you need to get the shot quickly while the fish is still fresh, with it’s fins up. When the fins go down you’ve lost the shot, and possibly the fish too. • Don’t forget to get the angler to grin! If it’s a trophy fish, they should be grinning anyway! Heres Johns first tip: Watch your horizons! This is very obvious, but very often a good shot gets ruined by a horizon that is not straight. The pics are pretty self explanatory!
