A lot of psychological damage begins with the judgmental nature of some religions that is foisted upon even small children. No children should have to grow up being told that they are sinners and will go to a fiery hell if they do not repent of their evil ways and become submissive to some Sky Bubba God who has total control over them. That is not God, and there is nothing Godly about that kind of abusive threat. That is a nightmarish version of a vindictive judgmental God fabricated by men of the Abrahamic religions to keep people scared and submissive, the better for the church hierarchy to maintain power and control over them, which it does.
