A lot of these kids are escaping. Theyre not immigrants, theyre refugees, said Davenport Mayor Bill Gluba, who has led the initiative. Theres a difference. And that needs to be made clear to the courts. Others working on the matter in Iowa include Dubuque for Refugee Children, a group raising money to finance legal representation for an unaccompanied minor in Iowa. Theyre also gathering money and materials to send to a church in Texas, and recruiting housing pledges for 1,000 Kids for Iowa.
