A magnitude 7.2 quake hit Bohol on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. Phivolcs said the quake occurred 2 kilometers southeast of Carmen town at 8:12 a.m. Phivolcs said the following quake intensities were felt: Intensity VII - Tagbilaran, Bohol Intensity VI - Hinigaran, Negros Occidental Intensity V - Iloilo City; La Carlota, Negros Occidental Intensity IV - Masbate City; Roxas City; San Jose, Culasi, Antique; Guihulngan, Negros Oriental Intensity III - Davao City The quake, which was tectonic in origin, struck at a depth of about 33 km, Phivolcs said. The USGS also measured the magnitude of the quake at 7.2 but said the quake had a depth of 56.8 kms. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii, meanwhile, said there was no threat of a Pacific-wide tsunami after the quake. Phivolcs said damage and aftershocks are expected from the quake. Radio DYAB reporter June Perez, who is based in Cebu City, said the quake was felt in the city for about 30 seconds.
