A man has been charged after he allegedly broke into a retirement unit and threatened an elderly woman on the Northern Beaches yesterday. Police have been told an 84-year-old woman was asleep in her bed when a man allegedly climbed through a window into her unit about 3am (Thursday 6 February 2014). When the woman woke to find a man standing by her bedside she screamed and pressed a panic alarm and the man ran from the unit. The woman was shaken but unharmed by the incident. Police arrested a 21-year-old man nearby and took him to Dee Why Police Station where last night he was charged with: • Aggravated enter dwelling, with intent, knowing people there; and, • Having goods in custody suspected of being stolen. The man, from Warriewood, was refused bail overnight; however, he has now been taken to Manly Hospital for assessment.
