A man who went to get a Friday night takeaway for him and his partner was followed and hit on the head with a weapon. At about 8.30pm on Friday 31 May 2013, the 32-year-old man was walking on Mersey Bank Avenue, Chorlton, having got fish and chips from a nearby takeaway. He noticed he was being followed, so called his girlfriend, asking her to meet him. When she saw him he handed her the food and said he didn’t want his followers to see where they lived. He then turned around. He was hit over the head with either a piece of wood or a metal bar on Whiteholme Avenue. The victim was taken to hospital. He has since needed eight separate metal plates to treat an injury to his jaw. The attackers are described as being four men, two of whom are white, one of whom is black, and the other is of mixed race. Detective Constable Craig Barry said: “This was a totally unprovoked attack on a man whose life has been put on hold because of the serious injuries he has suffered. “As part of our investigation, we are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen what happened.” Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 6422 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
