A memory came to mind watching this video. There used to be a series called The Language of Music. I bought the one that features Tom Dowd. Produced everyone from Ray Charles, Allman Brothers, Cream and on in tge 60s. He talked about being in the studio with Cream and they just couldnt get the needed hook for Sunshine. He told um to listen to the drums in old Western movies. Next session they nailed it. Another aside. Tom Dowd was going to school studying physics when WW ll broke out. During tge course of his enlistment he was working on the Manhatten Project. After the war he could not return to college, as for all intents and purposes, he literally knew more than his instructors. His accomplishments in music are astounding. There is a scene in the documentary where one hears these ethreal sounds, intertwining and wrapping around each other. Dowd is sitting at the control board dialing up individual tracks from Layla. The sound being heard is Clapton and Duane Almonds guitars soaring and embracing. You owe it to yourself to check the dvd Tom Dowd: The Language of Music.
