A message From Barry Moore not to be taken lightly. I for one - TopicsExpress

A message From Barry Moore not to be taken lightly. I for one have passed this on to Servigest and suggest EVERYONE else who DOES NOT want to see this infestation worsen should do the same. On a recent visit to the estate I was concerened at the extent of cockroach activity, particularly at the bottom of the estate around the commercial area but extending at least as far as the central green areas to a lesser degree. With over 30 years of experience of public health pests I have serious issues with the possible effects on health in the estate. Cockroaches are known vectors of a number of harmful organisms and with many of these insects apparently living in the drainage /sewage systems they are likely to be potentially responsible as carriers of pathogens injurious to public health. I understand that treatments by a Pest Control company are carried out once or twice annually to the drains. The scale of this infestation has clearly gone beyond that and in order to bring this major infestation under control, it might be deemed necessary initially to have treatments at 2 to 3 week intervals to cope with the egg laying biology of these insects. It is evident that the outbreak has now extended to areas of the estate and as the weather warms, activity can only increase with the likelyhood that the whole site will be affected. I would find it difficult to accept that already some houses and gardens are problem free and as such treatment should also be carried out in these properties. I understand that Paul ( and perhaps other commercial properties ) is involved in not inconsiderable expense in dealing with the problem. As it stands he is on a hiding to nothing unless the problem is tackled aggressively and its unfair that he should be faced with the expense of tackling what is at present an unsurmountable problem. There is no doubt that in the UK an immediate Improvement Order would force closure of food premises until the matter was resolved. Not only do we not want that to happen but Entre Naranjos, having in the past being the subject of Bad Press, this is the last thing we need. I for one am prepared to accept additional expense if it is going to eradicate these insects before it bocomes a Health Issue which has to be brought to the attention of the Spanish Health Authorities.
