A message from Howard Rowe: To All FISers: I want to wish - TopicsExpress

A message from Howard Rowe: To All FISers: I want to wish everyone happy holidays! I also want to offer a much belated thank you for the accolades you posted last February. They were certainly APPRECIATED. A very close friend of mine passed away this past fall and, at the Celebration of Life for him, everyone commented on all the attributes he possessed, i.e. kindness, honesty, he would help anyone, he was not selfish, etc. When I heard all of this, I told them that it is a shame that he didnt hear this while he was living. Which brings me to the point that I want to make. I feel that I am one of the luckiest people in the world because so many of you have expressed your gratitude while I was able to read and hear it. Thank you!!! I walk 3-5 miles every day in the neighborhood, the village, and the beach to see what is going on. During these walks I think of FIS frequently. Kristine (my daughter) shares many of the statements on Facebook, and many of them bring back fond memories. Earlier this year, Martin Goetze wrote that he was sitting outside at the Mall in Washington, D.C. This brought many nostalgic memories for me as I spent a lot of time there and played football near the White House Lawn when I worked for the FBI. A few of you wrote that I had a knack of finding people where they weren’t supposed to be. I must say that many of you had a network set up to keep ahead of me. This was evidenced on the ski trips, when another teacher and I would visit a Gasthaus to check that everything was in order. I would make a statement to the other teacher that It would probably be a good idea to ‘visit’ the next Gasthaus just loud enough so the students could hear it. Before we got out of the 1st Gasthaus, students were streaming out of the 2nd one. What a pipeline—and this was before the mobile phone era!!! In reading this, it appears I have too many I’s, which wasn’t my intention. However, I am so proud of all of you and what you have accomplished in your lives—there is always something positive in everyone. I am so happy that I did make some positive impressions on you. It appears that the extra training sessions, the little chats,” keeping my mini-bike spick and span, the paddle (remember that was not mandatory—you had a choice between that and a chat with Mama and Papa and me), and the office time to let you meditate and work on assignments all were not in vain. Most of these techniques will not work in todays world, but I do know if everyone thinks positively and tries to find the positive attributes in others, many problems can be solved! Wishing all of you the very best for 2015, Howard Rowe Teacher and Upper School Principal, 1966-1978
