A message from the Executive Director: Hello supporters, fans, and Moms & Dads of all beautiful breeds! We are a month away from summer, and it seems like it took forever to finally get here. As most know, for the past year we were hard at work constructing the Calvin Cash Boarding Center for DDR. There were lots of questions, and there will be a FAQ note set aside on our page for people to refer to. So please watch for that in the coming weeks as we compile that together. The one thing to remember that is most important, is that this facility must be able to sustain. And to do that, it takes donations, and contributions. We have offset our boarding costs with the opening of this Center, but we still have vet costs and operational costs. We still have to keep the lights on! I am expecting people to bring up that we received a large donation, etc., but people need to remember 2 things; 1, that donation was three years ago, and 2, it came from one person. Which means according to tax law it had to spent within a three year period, which we have. Every non-profit organization relies on you, the public, but we are a special organization. We are in the lead when it comes to advocating a no-kill nation. Something Detroit has not had, and we intend to continue to be the leader in this movement. The opening of our Center is just the beginning, and is a huge step in that movement for the city of Detroit, considering how many dogs are put down each day for simply being a dog. Little to no testing on dogs, little to no treatment for curable diseases, and euthanized simply for being a puppy. Our voice, is your voice. We speak for you, the more than 64,000 people who have chose to like this page in support of the awareness we bring, the work we do, or simply just to browse and look at the beautiful faces on these loving animals that we adopt out each week. As I type this we have 29 dogs, and that number increases with every phone call we take. Thanks to Detroit K-9 and our partners over at Pet Supplies Plus we are not in need of food for our furry friends, but now that the Center is done we need to sustain, and thats where you come in. If everyone here just reached in to their wallet, couch, secret stash, coin purse, ashtray, console, and donated just $1 a month, we would be able to do so much more for the dogs and the community. $1 a month. Let me say that again, lol, $1 A MONTH. Its that easy! Education is a bi-product of our community outreach program. We are in the neighborhoods constantly reaching out to residents reminding them what it takes to be a responsible dog owner. Soon, with the help from the City, and our allies in Lansing, residents will be able to purchase licenses and other forms of identification through programs dedicated to educating owners on pet responsibility. We believe this is key to the wellness of a dogs future as well as doing our part in animal welfare in the City of Detroit. Please, take the time to donate, contribute, and do your part to help us serve the dogs of Detroit! This isnt a public service announcement, this is real life. Anything, and everything you can do is well appreciated. Thank you, Hush Co-Founder/Executive Director To donate online go to detroitdogrescue or to send in a donation, please make checks payable to Detroit Dog Rescue, P.O.
