A message of support from our friends at the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation USA: Congratulations on the very dynamic partnership between the International Storytelling Center and The Google Cultural Institute, an outstanding digital resource and reminder that artistry is inherent to being human. An even brighter light now shines on the treasured Art of Storytelling. We at the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation-USA are honored to be included as part of the ISC entry in which our collaboration to tell stories that embody the philosophy of Ubuntu is described. Ubuntu is the foundation of peaceful, nonviolent interaction among people and can be practiced in families, in schools, in religious institutions, in the workplace, and among the nations of the world. It is applicable at every level of human experience. In Ubuntu’s embrace, we can both celebrate and protect life. We are truly grateful to the ISC and Google Cultural Institute for the chance to reach many more people with this single word—Ubuntu—that describes perfectly what it takes to reach the goal people so ardently seek around the world—peace. Archbishop Emeritus Tutu tells us that “Differences are not intended to separate, to alienate. We are different precisely in order to realize our need of one another.” Special thanks to Master “tellers” Linda Goodman and Donald Davis for their outstanding roles in launching our Ubuntu Story Project in collaboration with ISC. In anticipation of hearing more Ubuntu stories, I leave you with a question. Do you have Ubuntu? Rebecca Popham, Managing Editor The Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation-USA [email protected]
