A mother is asking for justice for her thirteen year old daughter who suffered serious injuries due to a bus driver’s alleged negligence. Poonam Maharaj, a class eight student of Samabula Primary School, was boarding the bus in Samabula, Suva last Friday. It’s alleged the driver moved the bus while the girl was still trying to get on board. She fell off the bus and injured her right hand, neck and shoulder. Her mother Shukla Devi – says they reported the matter to the Samabula Police Station and are still waiting to hear back from the police. “There’s no action taken against the driver, the driver is still driving the bus, and the driver called me and he said that he wants to settle, he said he will give four hundred dollars for my daughter’s hand. How can this happen, he just wants to settle the case by four hundred dollars.” Police Spokesperson – Ana Naisoro says they are gathering statements from witnesses and the driver has been questioned.
