A mothers intuition should be regarded as gold standard! Never - TopicsExpress

A mothers intuition should be regarded as gold standard! Never argue with your wife or take her concerns lightly. All has been going well, as per textbook with our new addition, Amber. We have been amazed how well she sleeps and feeds. She makes very little noise, almost the opposite of her sister. She is such a little angel! My wife had noticed that whenever she picked her up under the right arm, she would let out a belching, high pitched squeal and cry! Her whole body would instantly turn red and she would squirm and reel in pain it seemed. I did my nurse thing and looked for any bone breaks, checked her range of movement and her strength and in the end I was pretty certain it must of been soft tissue trauma from the Caesarian . Well, the Caesarian was of the emergency nature, and I did remember seeing the surgeon pulling our baby out with great difficulty as baby was breech. At one point I thought baby would have had some sort of trauma from all the pulling. It took her a little while to cry once free, and I kept praying that all would be okay. She turned out to be a beautiful, model baby until these constant outbursts of crying began. We took her into the Emergency department to get her checked out. The doc did her assessment and all seemed well, but we both were still not convinced. So we pushed for an X-Ray, even though I dont like babies being exposed to radiation. After much waiting, the doc broke the news (thats a pun!) that Ambers collar bone or clavicle was broken almost definitely at the time of Caesarian section. We both froze and instantly I felt really terrible for not heeding my wifes concerns earlier! But the positive of this matter is, that she will be followed up well, and that she will heal quickly as per the medical staff! Furthermore, at least we know how to handle her now, to not cause anymore pain. Lastly, Praise God, that we have no other concerns or illnesses to deal with and that baby was delivered alive! Thank you wifey for being a better parent than me. lesson: sometimes trusting your gut is smarter than your brain! Wink!
