A must read to understand and anticipate the impacts of this storm called Yolanda. My colleagues from Manila Observatiry, who are really some of the most brilliant scientific minds in this country and I would say world, put together an analysis that shows not just the strength/intensity of Yolanda but also illustrate potential population exposure and poverty vulnerability of areas that are along its path. The analysis also provides historical information on previous disasters brought about by such strong storms are also included for emphasis on potential impacts. Amomg others, the MO scientists predicts, based on JTWC and NSCB data, that if Typhoon Yolanda continues its northwest-bound track, several provinces in Visayas may be at risk to its impacts because of their high poverty incidence, including parts of Samar, Leyte, Bohol, Masbate, Negros Oriental and Antique, as well as Northeastern Mindanao. It also points out that we might be able to learn lessons from Typhoon Ruping in 1990 which followed the same track as Yolanda seems to be going.
