A mystery from 1902 Aberdeen, Ohio. LIKE A BIG SNAKE IN THE HEAVENS Aberdeen, O., Aug. 4. Aberdeen residents gazing skyward about 10:30 o’clock last night, witnessed a strange spectacle. A light appeared in the heavens which resembled a huge snake. It was, to the naked eye, nearly a quarter of a mile in length, and was of a bright red and yellowish color. After remaining motionless for 15 minutes the peculiar light moved around in a circle for quite a while and then slowly vanished. The phenomenon was looked upon as a bad omen by some of the superstitious of this section. [This was explained by the Cincinnati Observatory as an extra-large meteor.]
