A neat test... I was 80 miles off... But, to my mind, thats close enough. As an undergrad, I once tried to demonstrate an inverse correlation between vehemence of opinions on specific policy matters and topical knowledge of the same issue. It was the early 80s, so I used Vietnam. I asked questions to determine relative vehemence of opinions for or against various aspects of that war, and then asked factual questions related to the war (to include having them identify Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos on a map). My hypothesis didnt discriminate between vehemence for or against the war, but I did eventually sort for that as well... I found a profound inverse correlation between knowing factual matters relevant to an issue and strength of opinion about the issue. And the correlation was about the same, regardless of pro or con...
