A negative mind will never give you a positive life I just wish I could give everyone all the happiness in the world. I am so thankful for the people in my life who make me the happiest person I can be and I strive everyday to influence others in return. Happiness is a magical sight to behold. I struggle with the thought of such amazing people being unhappy. It is truly sad to see people who have struggled to embrace the happiness within their lives. I see people particularly close to me that are ridiculously good at thinking themselves into unhappiness. No matter what happens, they can make themselves feel bad about life. That’s a miraculous achievement and a stupid habit at the same time. But it’s one that has been carefully taught to themselves over the years. They have formed dozens of behavioral thought patterns in place that get them back into an unhappy state on autopilot. Their habits and their mind take care of it on their own without them even knowing it. Something bad happened? “It’s because something’s wrong with me.” I accomplished something good? Somebody else did better. And so it goes. It’s easy to justify to themselves why they do this. “I’m just being cautious. I’m looking out for myself.” “I’m pushing myself to be successful”. “It’s just the way I am”. “Everybody thinks like this”. “I’ll only do this until I’m successful.” But all of that is bullshit. The reality is that they’re enabling and satisfying their unhappiness. They have trained themselves how to do this. And they keep on doing it over and over again. I want people to see that you can control how you experience life. You might not be able to decide all the things that happen to you in life. But you decide how you interpret those things. Your happiness is something that you control. I feel people have spent the longest time in life unhappy. Most of the time they are not even aware of it, and accept it as normal. They think that the way I feel was a result of the world around them; instead of the way they dealt with the world. You decide what you focus your attention in life. You decide the things you repeatedly do. You decide the activities you engage in that trigger certain emotions in your life. You decide how you interpret what happens in the world around you. You decide your happiness. Control your mind. Control the way you think. Control the way you feel. And control your happiness. Our simple minds just cannot comprehend the complexity of the world. That’s why we tell ourselves stories of what happens. You can tell yourself good stories and make yourself feel better. We call these people optimists. Or you can tell yourself bad stories and make yourself feel worse. We call those people pessimists. The difference in how these two types of people experience life is huge. Both types of stories are made up. And they’re not accurate at all. No matter what way of thinking you adopt, you’re going to be wrong some of the time. So if you’re going to be wrong anyway, you might as well adopt a mode of thinking that’s beneficial to you and makes you feel good. Delaying happiness. “First I’ll have to… and that will make me happy.” That’s a silly way to live your life. Life’s too short to keep on delaying happiness. Unfortunately, many people live their entire lives like that. They assume that happiness will follow naturally once they’ve reached a certain goal. Meanwhile, they make themselves feel bad. And when they finally reach that coveted goal, they notice that it doesn’t really give them any fulfillment. Delaying happiness is a silly habit. Happiness must come first. It makes everything else better. It leads to a whole range of beneficial things in life. And it’s a choice. Sure, you’ll always have ups and downs in life. But you can change what your default state is. You can change what mental state you gravitate towards. I just want you to be happy…xo
