A new name for St Thomas More Parish and St Teresa Parish As many - TopicsExpress

A new name for St Thomas More Parish and St Teresa Parish As many of you are aware St Thomas More and St Teresa parishes are currently working on an amalgamation process, part of which has been choosing a name for the proposed new combined parish. Further to discussions at Masses, a number of written submissions, and a joint parish meeting in May, suggestions were prayerfully considered by the combined Parish Councils, and a recommendation was forwarded in a letter to Archbishop John. He has responded, confirming the new name of Catholic Parish of Otari. Otari is a natural native bush sanctuary that is beautiful, peaceful, and unique to Wellington West. It stands within Wilton and adjacent to Karori. People can enter Otari along paths from both suburbs. Otari is te reo for place of snares – in this bush, Maori found sustenance for their whānau. Spiritually, we are called to snare others for Jesus – by our witness, by our worship, and by our love for each other. Sacramentally, we snare Jesus, our spiritual food, during reception of the Eucharist. Our new parish invites us to worship in its churches and to receive food for the journey. Geographically, Otari is a link between Karori and Wilton. So Otari will link St Teresa’s Church, Karori and St Thomas More’s Church, Wilton as the name of our new parish. From the parish councils and finance committees of St Teresa’s and St Thomas More.
