A new study by HCEO member Janet Currie and Reed Walker looked at the health effects of an E-ZPass tolling program installed in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. They found that among the 30,000 births to mothers living within two kilometers of a toll plaza, 255 premature births and 275 low-birth-weight births were avoided because of the reduction in the air pollution. The researchers estimated savings of between $9.8 and $13 million. This study also highlights how this system helps prevent many health implications in the future for premature born babies like cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, vision problems, and hearing loss. bit.ly/1tqmWGy #ECI
