A "new symbol" that represents the United States. Since it was a nice and sunny day in Virginia, I decided to drive to the post office to mail a gift to my sister-in-law for her special day. “Happy birthday Arlene”! While driving thru the neighborhood, I started to thing about the symbols that represent the United States of America. But I could only remember a few symbols like the American flag, the White House, the US Seal, the Liberty Bell, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Alamo, Gettysburg, Monticello, Mount Vernon, Mount Rushmore, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, World War 2 Memorial, Independence Hall, the Washington Monument, the US Capitol, the bald eagle, the Spangled Banner, the Pledge of Allegiance, the Statue of Liberty (a gift from France). I think that most Americans will agree that the “FOR SALE sign” should be a “new American symbol”. More people can sale their home than can said the Pledge of Allegiance or give the history of the American flag. In my neighborhood, we have more homes “FOR SALE” and only two homes have “American flags” on Independence Day. I started to realize that many of my neighbors had replaced their “American flags” with a “new American symbol” (a FOR SALE sign). I asked a few friends to list the symbols that represent the United States of America and which home are “FOR SALE” in the area. Only a few neighbors were able to list the items that symbolize our nation. I am sad to say; everyone knew which homes are listed “FOR SALE”. I deleted the photos of the “FOR SALE signs”. After all, who wants to be reminded that their home is now “FOR SALE”? When I think about the colors of the “American flag” I think about words like: red - courage, revolution, rebellion, blood, and valor, white - peace, purity, moral, wisdom, courage and innocence, blue - freedom, vigilance, perseverance, justice, prosperity, goodwill, and patriotism. When I think about the colors of the “FOR SALE sign” I think about works like: White background – surrender, withdrawal, relinquish and abandon. Black letters - despair, sin hopelessness, disappointment and mourning What a shameful nation. Hit “LIKE”, if you agreed
