A night and a day of downs and ups. After the discouraging phone conversation with the doctor last night it was a long, restless night with lots running through my mind. Coralynn arrived on schedule and spent the day talking with my mom and the doctors and nurses. Dougs flight was delayed but he made it after some 20 hours en route. James is now on his way and Kat leaves in a few hours. What we have learned from the doctors is this: mom may have been so critical last night because the infections were beginning to break up and this caused them to release their toxins into her system. This is very theoretical but her chest x-ray showed an improvement in the pneumonia today. The oxygen flow could be reduced from 15 to 3. However, she will most likely need to be on oxygen support for the rest of her life. They discovered an ulcer and that acid reflux has contributed to the pneumonia problem. Physical therapy came and got her out of bed. This is a critical step in determining what is next. She will probably be entering hospice, and whether or not she is able to get herself around will determine the level of care she needs. Tomorrow PT will have her sit in a chair. Her physical mobility will of course also help break up the congestion. The nurse told Coralynn that today was the best she has seen my mom in a long time. Im sure that its the combination of many factors. So, as far as I know, thats where your prayers have brought us to at this point. We thank you for your faithful support and love.
