A nine-year-old boy just knocked on my door and asked if he could shovel my porch and driveway. I looked at the 4 inches or so that has fallen since yesterday and the snow still falling rather heavily and thought any amount of money would be worth not having to shovel or even go out there with the snow blower right now.....So I said of course, and talked to him a bit. Seems he only wanted $5 -- he and his 5th grade brother are doing odd jobs to earn money needed so his brother can go to Williamsburg with his class. He needs $1000. He did a great job, and I gave him $10 and still thought I was cheating him. I had to stop to think about the work ethic this kid has -- he is not doing this for a game or toy, but to help his brother get to Williamsburg. The boys name? Christian. How fitting. He can shovel my walk any time he knocks.
