A note from Howard… How can I begin to describe for you what Trisha and I feel now that we have experienced our first Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo? It was beyond belief. The whole experience made us proud of Houston and Texas, and made us glad that God brought us to MDPC. We took it all in and enjoyed every minute of it. I have to tell you that one of the highlights for me was eating a batch of Oreos, wrapped in chocolate chip cookie dough and deep fried, on a stick. That’s awfully close to heaven for me! But enough of that… This coming Sunday, we will continue the series Faces and Places Around the Cross as we see Jesus in the Roman barracks, where Human Cruelty and God’s Gentleness are on full display. The scripture is Matthew 27:27-31. Take a look at that passage before Sunday, please. Baptisms. Do I ever love them! This week at 9:45 we will baptize Brooks Christopher Dawson, the son of Amanda and Aaron Dawson, and Cooper Wayne Long, the son of Holly and Michael Long. Then, at 11:15, we shall baptize Ellie Leigh Martin, daughter of Robyn and Mitch Martin. At the 11:15 Spanish service, the congregation will have the joy of participating in the wedding ceremony of Carmen Escobar and Jerson Lopez. What a beautiful moment that will be! Pastor Chacón will also preach from John 3:1-17 in his sermon, Walking by Faith. After the worship service, there will be a celebration for the bridal couple in the Scout House. At Fifth Service, Kristin Huffman will be preaching from Mark 9:2-29 in a message on God’s Glory Manifested. The Fifth community will be welcoming back newlyweds Tara and Matt Reynolds, leaders of the worship band. The Spoken Word, where, in truly amazing fashion, this congregation publicly reads the Bible cover-to-cover around the clock during Holy Week, is open for registration beginning on March 17 (appropriately, St. Patrick’s Day). Trisha and I are eager to join you in this wondrous act of devotion to our Lord. Dave Steane is serving this week as team chaplain for a Faith In Practice mission to Guatemala. Please join me in praying for the team as they minister there. We are blessed that Kristin Huffman and Christyn Knoop will assume Dave’s duties in worship. What a joy to be able to serve Christ together with you in this great church! In Christ’s Love, Howard
