A number of people have asked me about healthcare and hospitals in Australia (which, in comparison with other countries Ive lived, is phenomenal). One may have private insurance if one wishes, in order to bypass any delay in the public system for non-urgent treatment - to see the same top specialists and have the same tests and treatments for free. And payment is eminently fair. Everyone except those in the lowest income strata pays exactly 1.5% of their taxable income. No petty little bureaucrat may tell us which doctors we can see, or what treatment or tests we may have, how often or when.
