A number of states have passed, or are trying to pass, mandatory drug testing for receiving welfare and/or food stamp benefits. Even though it has been demonstrated repeatedly to be a waste of taxpayer money. Even though the only thing it accomplishes is demeaning people who are already downtrodden. Arizona passed a drug-testing in 2009. In 2012, the program was evaluated. After three years and 87,000 screenings, only one person had failed the drug test. Cost, hundreds of thousands. Savings: a couple of hundred.
