A number of studies carried out in the late 80s and through the 90s found that people who had done a couple of hours of taxing physical and mental tasks, had improved multi-tasking abilities within 15 minutes of drinking a cup of tea. No such effect was found with the group drinking coffee, or the control group drinking plain water. They weren t able to identify the cause other than to conclude that it wasnt due to either hydration or the stimulus of caffeine, obviously not, at that time having identified the role played by l-theanine. Aslo bear in mind that tea is mostly grown without any synthetic pesticides, whereas coffee plantations are not only heavily sprayed, but coffee also contains significant amounts of theophylline and theobromine, both of them toxic in themselves, more so than caffeine which has been to a large extent falsely maligned, until lately.
