A one-day orientation on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Agricultural Recovery Options was jointly facilitated by Ecoweb and the MLGU of Dulag in 17 September 2014 for the barangay council members of Alegre, Cabacungan and Batug, at the municipal gymnasium of Dulag, Leyte. The activity was graced by the executive assistant, Engr. Restituto “Tots” Polillo with a welcome message. Key department heads of Dulag MLGU, namely, Bernardita P. Lacbayo – MDRRMO, Mia C. Margallo – MLGOO, Engr. Manuel Garcia – MPDC, and William D. Duan – MA, together with Ecoweb’s Rey Tanzo – DRR Coordinator and Engr. Edwin Andot – Agriculture Recovery Adviser served as speakers. Aside from being an opportunity for the leveling-off of understanding on DRR among key stakeholders, the orientation also served as kick-off activity for the conduct of participatory disaster risk reduction and management planning for the three (3) barangays of Alegre, Cabacungan, and Batug which are the coverage of Ecoweb’s Mediating and Empowering Disaster Response for Typhoon Haiyan Survivors (MEDRTHS) project in Eastern Leyte funded by the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) – USA and with technical support from ecoteknotika. The MEDRTHS project provides forty (40) unit shelter, housing materials to most vulnerable typhoon survivors, and technical assistance in DRRM planning to the 3 BLGUs.
