A one-year extension of Secure Rural Schools (SRS) payments was included in legislation passed by the House yesterday evening. These payments help provide critical services like law enforcement, education and infrastructure maintenance for our struggling rural counties. This short-term extension allows Congress more time to pass a plan addressing what our rural folks really need—long-term economic certainty, employment opportunities, thriving forests and reliable sources of revenue. I remain committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and Capitol in coming up with a solution that repairs our broken rural economies, gets folks back to work in the woods and revives our unhealthy forests.
