A patriotic Nigerian replies Sheikh Ahmad Gumi in defence of Buhari. Muhammed Kabir Ibrahim writes on Gumis Facebook wall (and i concur 100%): Mallam, it is sad to read this deragatory, divisive and self-indulging piece from a supposedly revered Islamic cleric of your calibre. I have high veneration for you and hardly do I allow even my local folks to drag your name in the mud. I dont know what personal grudge you have against General Buhari, although your contempt for President Jonathan is understandable. Honestly, neither Buhari, nor Jonathan deserves this type of primodial castigation anchored by narrow-mindedness and ignorance of current politial climes. Starting with President Jonathan, perhaps you want us to believe that Muslims are completely alienated from his government. In your usual attempt to blindly paint the President black, you deliberately choose to ignore the fact that some key positions like the Vice President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Minister of Defence, IG of Police, FCT Minister as well as NSA, just to mention but a few, are held by Northern Muslims. If you are embittered by the business of pastors owning private jets, who stops you ingratiating yourself with the Vice President, who by the way is your kinsman from Kaduna, to get your own jet? In my view, Jonathans government is pro-CAN as well as pro-JNI. Muslims and Christians are part and parcel of this government. It is a matter of making the hay while the sun shines. If you want a private jet, go to Abuja frequently to sing praises of Jonathan/PDP and enjoin your followers to support his reelection bid. As simple as that. As for Buhari, I dont think he is the obstinate one. Rather, you are. The simple reason is that, millions of patriotic Nigerians have seen him as the only tested and trusted opposition leader capable of taking this country out of the woods. For every ten people like you who think Buhari should not contest, there are one thousand who think he should contest. For every ten people like you who think Buhari is aged or outdated and is therefore unelectable, there are one thousand who think he is stronger and more popular than ever, and stands a better chance to win in 2015. For every ten people like you who think Buharis integrity and sense of nationalism is ruined by his past remarks regarding Shariah, there are one thousand who believe, instead, that your type are the actual religious and regional fanatics who would Islamicize or divide Nigeria, if chanced. So, who should Buhari listen to? The voice of handful self-acclaimed elders, or the voice of the masses in their millions? I think the latter. Your inexplicable disdain for the general is now crystal clear. How on the earth would you compare a man who shunned all opportunities to enrich himself and preferred to hold his honour above all things with Pharoah, the most cruel ruler in the history of mankind? Mallam, with due respect and apropos reference to your suggestion that Nigeria needs a neutural candidate in the run up to the next democratic dispensation, I kindly invite you to present yourself as Presidential candidate. That is, if you really are the non-partisan you have claimed to be. You have to be the change you want to see. Please step forward. We are looking forward to your declaration day. If the majority accept you or any other neutural amateurish candidate more than Buhari and Jonathan, Ill doff my hat off for you and wish you the best of luck in your quest for national healing.
