A peoples right to self determination is the principle article in the United Nations legislation. You cannot have any objection above that right, whether based on moral or practical or political arguments. No matter what disruption it might cause the Scots have the fundamental right to determine their own independence. Its a very lofty ideal to ascribe to but when ALL the arguments for and against in the past weeks seem to have revolved around petty and contradictory claim and counter-claim ...it might be best to decide based simply on principle. Personally, as an Englishman, I want the Scots to vote YES. The Nationalists seem to have a mental picture of an independent Scotland being almost Utopian ...almost perfect like another Norway. Listening to the arguments and looking at the figures I very much doubt that a Scot will be any better off whether he or she is governed from London or Edinburgh. Im just tired of hearing how much they resent and even hate us so, whatever the consequences, Ill be glad to see them go.
