A person by name Sid Kaskey who mentions that he is a freelance librarian calls LIBRARIANSHIP TO BE A DYING PROFESSION in LinkedIn Group, “LIS Career Options a subgroup of American Library Association” : AND HERE IS WHAT SAYS : “To Clarify my position: if by a dying profession, for the sake of this discussion, it is meant the professional credentials [MLS, MSLIS, or anyone of the myriad variants] then yes I believe it is rightly dying. If however if I am correctly understanding some of the responses it is meant to mean some skilled individual in a position to guide people in finding needed information in its varied forms then no I believe it is not dying but rather I believe someone with good skills will always be needed. My position speaks strictly to the de facto licensing requirements currently required of the profession”. I do strongly believe that such defamatory and irresponsible statements malign the status of the LIS Profession. DO YOU HAVE ANY THING TO SAY ON THIS? …..
