A picture was posted by a friend in which the balloon contained Karl Rove talking to Plato, But surely you agree that truth can be created by the repetition of lies. The picture has been removed from the post. However, the issue and the responses are interesting. Discussions can go on endlessly, it seems, without defining what it intended by the word truth. Depending on the definition the answer can be yes, no pr maybe. For many people truth means whatever they want it to mean. It can be whatever can be said or imagined. Twenty or thirty years ago, Mortimer Adler televised a discussion of the idea of truth. During the hour program, none of his many distinguished guests ever seemed to understand the idea of truth as he described it. Without a clear meaning of what is intended the discussions are little more than word ritual magic. Adler, by the way, stated as I recall that the idea of truth is that something which is believed to be true can be checked against evidence and when the evidence found corresponds to the belief, then the belief is true.
