A piece of doggerel derived from a twitter exchange last night: Your friends are all ahead of you Looking back with a grin Earning much more money Winning much more win But that’s not how it is at all It’s really not that way. You are doing better than you think And they’re doing worse than they say. Their books have just been published Their songs are number one Their kids have got a law degree Their granddad’s hit the ton. Their whole damn world is flying high But keep on making hay Cos you are doing better than you think And they’re doing worse than they say. They’ll make you feel you’re on the bottom Just barely on your feet But don’t give them no credence They’re all lying through their teeth Do the best you can It’s all that you can do And one day you will wake to find The sun’s come shining through Until then, keep your chin up keep fighting all the way. You are doing better than you think And they’re doing worse than they say.
